Thomas Cochrane

Tom is an Associate at O’Connor LLP. Originally a practising barrister, having been called to the Bar of Ireland in 2021, Tom was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2024.

He is a litigation lawyer, specialising in commercial, regulatory and employment disputes. He has recently acted in a number of matters before the Commercial Court, a public procurement challenge and a contractual damage claim exceeding €4 million.

Tom was also previously involved in a Supreme Court appeal concerning the Central Bank Acts and the Consumer Protection Codes, and subsequently worked on the extensive litigation arising from the tracker mortgage scandal.

Tom regularly represents registrants in Fitness to Practise matters before the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and the Medical Council. This includes representing registrants at the Preliminary Proceedings Committee stage, interlocutory applications, and contesting matters at inquiry.

He frequently advises trade unions and their members on administrative matters, contentious employment disputes and regulatory issues. This often involves representing members before the WRC and Labour Court, as well as advising on contracts of employment, settlement agreements, disciplinary processes, and staff policies & handbooks.

Tom also advises on statutory and regulatory frameworks in healthcare, as well as the regulation of builders.

He holds an LL.B. (Hons) in Law. He also holds a Barrister-at-Law degree from the Honourable Society of King’s Inns, where he was awarded the Arthur Browne Prize for achieving the highest grade in the entrance examinations.
